Chapbook
During my time as a Writing & Publishing student at Okanagan College I was assigned to design and produce a chapbook of my own creation. Not wanting to pass up what might be a once in a lifetime opportunity, I decided to produce a chapbook of my own poetry.
mouthy pt 1 consists of one of three short prose poems written in Bahamian Dialect for submission to a Canadian journal. mouthy was rejected but I was proud of the poems. Given the time constraints of the class I took the first poem sweet tooth for the project.
mouthy pt 1 was hand set in 14pt Van Dijck with 48pt Bookman for display. I was responsible for designing, printing, and binding the chapbook. It was printed on a Chandler & Price in The Bunker at Okanagan College. A mockup design was created with Adobe inDesign but during typesetting I was responsible for deciding wordspacing.
The inspiration for the design was a mimicry of the mouth. The yellow of the title as plague, is an original colour mix made in The Bunker. The cover and flyleaf paper was sourced from what was on hand. By having the flyleaf peek out of the cover, I was hoping to give the impression of a tongue.
